NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences Scholarship 2022

The NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences may be able to offer you a scholarship if you apply or study there. Students from outside of the EU/EEA can apply for two different scholarships at NHL Stenden.

In addition to Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences, the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science funds the Holland Scholarship. A performance-based scholarship, the NHL Stenden Excellency Scholarship is awarded each year. It cannot be applied for before you have begun your studies. The scholarship will be awarded to NHL Stenden’s best-performing NON-EU/EEA bachelor students during their first and second year as students.

Holland Scholarship 2022

About the Holland Scholarship

Holland Scholarships are only available at the Dutch NHL Stenden campuses. The scholarship is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science as well as various Dutch higher education institutions (including NHL Stenden), and is awarded to a select number of first-year students from non-EU/EEA countries.

It is important to keep in mind that the Holland Scholarship only partially covers the cost of the first year of study. The scholarship will be given to the recipients after their arrival in the Netherlands in the first semester. You should be aware of the tuition fees and living costs associated with studying in the Netherlands.

Criteria Holland Scholarship:

  • You are a citizen of a country not in the EU/EEA
  • You applied to NHL Stenden’s Bachelor program
  • NHL Stenden sent you a Letter of Acceptance
  • You have a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or are a native English speaker

Application proces

  • Click on the Apply Now button to fill out the online application form
  • Applicants are required to submit a letter of motivation with a maximum of 300 words to [email protected] in addition to the application form.
  • You must complete your Holland Scholarship application for 2022-2023 by 1 November 2021 and/or before 1 May 2022.

After the application deadline of the 1st of May 2022, the selection committee will assess the applications. Results will be announced by the end of May.

Excellency Scholarship

About the NHL Stenden Excellency Scholarship 2022

A performance-based financial award, the NHL Stenden Excellency Scholarship is awarded to the top-performing non-EU/EEA undergraduate students. You will be awarded a scholarship of €2,000 if you are among the top 40 non-EU/EEA students at NHL Stenden by the end of your first or second year. This is based on the number of ECTS you have earned at NHL Stenden in the previous year. A maximum of €4,000 may be awarded to you over the course of your studies at NHL Stenden if you do exceptionally well two years in a row.

There is no entry scholarship associated with the Excellency Scholarship.

How do you qualify?

For the NHL Stenden Excellency Scholarship, you must be a non-EU/EEA bachelor student starting in or after September 2020 and earning at least 54 ECTS (study points) during your first or second year at NHL Stenden. NHL Stenden will award € 2,000 scholarships each academic year to 40 best-performing non-EU/EEA bachelor students (only year 1 and/or year 2). Only those students with the highest amount of ECTS (60, 59, 58, etc.) will be chosen each year if there are more than 40 students qualifying. In addition to non-EU/EEA bachelor students, NHL Stenden also offers the Excellency Scholarship for students taking a pre-bachelor language course and those who have already earned a Holland Scholarship.

NHL Stenden will contact selected students personally. The amount of the award will be paid to selected students during the first period of the subsequent academic year. The NHL Stenden Excellence Scholarship does not waive tuition fees.

Additional Master scholarship; only for NHL Stenden alumni

  • If you meet the criteria, you may be eligible to apply for a scholarship of €6.000 for the MA degree Master in International Hospitality and Service Management and Master in International Leisure, Tourism & Events Management (non-EU students only).
  • The master’s programmes at NHL Stenden are among the best in the Netherlands.
  • Bachelor degree graduates of NHL Stenden are eligible for direct admission to master degree programs.
  • NHL Stenden bachelor students graduating in their 4th year are eligible to apply for a scholarship in September 2021.
  • Scholarships are available to alumni of the NHL Stenden Tourism, Leisure and Hotel Management bachelor programmes for September 2021.

Unique Scholarship

The NHL Stenden offers a unique scholarship for current 4th-year bachelor students and alumni of IHM, LM, TM to follow the MA degree at NHL Stenden for the price of €5.750 instead of €11.750.

Scholarships are limited. Scholarships can only be awarded to:

  1. The MA in International Hospitality and Service Management program is open to both EU and non-EU students starting in September 2021.
  2. Non-EU students applying for the MA in International Leisure, Tourism and Events Management (this program is publicly funded for EU-students) starting in September 2021.
